1001 Nights from ala sunder on Vimeo.

I worked on 1001 Nights, by Yoshitaka Amano, a long time ago when I used to be an animation assistant contracted at Red Rover Animation Studios. I loved this project, and oddly enough I’ve never seen the completed version (with soundtrack and all) until only a few years ago.

Posting here for posterity.

I spent a lot of time last year building a city in Sims 3.  The Sims 3 released a Create-A-World tool (still in Beta :p), and since the most fun I have playing Sims is building stuff, I couldn’t help myself.

Several months later, I’ve finished building my city. This is pretty much what I did with my spare time.

Sims 3 city

The Sims 3 already ships with a few worlds. I only have a few expansion packs, but there’s really plenty to play around with. My only problem is that I couldn’t relate to any of those worlds.  I’m a bit particular that I like my fantasy worlds to kinda/sorta be close to my real world.

Sims 3 city

Which kinda/sorta means I made a city that looks like mine. :p  Sort of.

Woodbine Park in winter

I feel like this past year I’ve been in kind of a holding stage. I’ve been busy, working, getting by and trying to enjoy my life.  I said last year that I’d get back into my art and being a creative person. I kind of fell off that path. :p

Photos are one thing, but I need to get back into drawing.  I need a muse.

These pictures are unrelated. It was snowing heavily and I couldn’t keep the snow off my lens.  I like the tourquoise lamps that lights the parks and boardwalk around here.

“Sen to Chihiro no Kamakakushi” directed by Hiyao Miyazaki and produced by Studio Ghibli.

It’s hard for me to say that I have a favourite movie. Like a lot of people, I’m indecisive, and I like movies depending on the mood I’m in at the time. But whenever someone asks me, the first movie that comes to mind is “Spirited Away”.  There is just so much beauty to this movie on so many levels.

Hiyao Miyazaki, the beloved director of this movie, founder of Studio Ghibli and creator of so many other wonderful movies such as My Neighbour, Totoro and Princess Mononoke, announced his retirement this weekend.  This perennial child wishes him well and I hope the imagination he’s sparked in so many other creators inspires a wealth of stories, images and characters to share with the world.

Bilbo Baggins in Bag End by Breathing2004

Art is by Jian Guo, and you can find more of his beautiful stained glass art on Deviantart:  breathing2004.deviantart.com.

I came across the LOTR stained glass art on Pinterest (Of course it wasn’t credited, who ever credits artists on social media anymore!).    I’m still poring over all the amazing details.   I couldn’t pick out any favourites, but there’s a couple more behind the cut.
